Pyrography

py·rog·ra·phy        pīˈräɡrÉ™fÄ“/

noun

  1. the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point.

If you say this word to someone, odds are they will have no clue what you are refering to. Most people dont even know what it is when I tell them I am a wood burning artist. It usually takes pictures and sometimes a video showing what tool I use to create my portraits. There are many different wood burners out there but I taught myself on a Walnut Hollow one night and never looked back. Same goes for the tip. 99.9% of the time I use the shading tip and only that one. If you experiment and get comfortable enough you will find you can use the flat edge to make smooth blending, the tip to do precise details and the edge to make straight lines. This is great if youre too impatient to wait for the tips to cool down to swap out.
